What to expect during the strike at Charlotte Douglas International Airport

CHARLOTTE, NC (WIS) – Airport service workers are on strike at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) as the holiday season approaches.

Is my flight impacted?

It is unclear how flights might be affected by the strike.

Who is on strike

The workers are employed by contractors ABM and Prospect — not the airport or an airline — for tasks such as cleaning planes and facilities, helping travelers who need wheelchairs, etc., according to our station sister. WBTV.

Workers walked off the job at 5 a.m. Monday morning and will be joined by other workers throughout the day for a 24-hour strike.

They are demanding better wages, benefits and working conditions, saying they are struggling to make ends meet, WBTV reported.

This comes ahead of what is expected to be the busiest holiday travel season CLT has ever seen.

According to NBC News, strikers said they will eat a “strike” lunch Monday at 1 p.m., in place of the Thanksgiving meal that many of them will not be able to afford later this week.

Following the strike, ABM told WBTV that the company was “taking steps to minimize any potential interruption of service.”

This is a developing story. Check back here for updates.
