Chappell Roan Debuts New Country Song ‘Lesbian Anthem’ on ‘SNL’

Chappell Roan debuted a new country song, “The Giver,” on Saturday evening live.

Ahead of her musical appearance last night (November 2), she shared one of her Facebook posts from 2011 on Instagram, in which she shared her hopes of one day being on the show, saying: “I’m determined to being on SNL. .”

She played ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess“Pink Pony Club,” then surprised fans by debuting the new song.

Joined by a violinist, she sings: “You don’t need to tell me, it’s just in my nature / So take it as a taker, ’cause baby, I’m a giver / I don’t need no help, ’cause that baby, I’m giving birth…ain It’s not a country boy who gives up / I’m doing the work” on its chorus.

Then, during the song’s bridge, she tells the audience, “All you country boys say you know how to treat a woman right.” Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman well.

In July, producer Dan Nigro said The New York Times fans could expect a “fun, upbeat country song” featuring a fiddle, and said he would show “a new version” of “Good Luck, Baby!” singer.

“The Giver” is already being dubbed the “lesbian anthem” because of its festive take on the topping. “I’m so emotional thinking about how we finally have queer figures in pop culture who are able to SCREAM about how queer they are,” one fan reflected under a clip of the performance.

“No insinuations, no theories, no vague words to avoid controversy; she shouts it from the rooftops and allows no way around it. No room for interpretation, just Chappell shouting “only a woman knows how to treat a woman right” live on SNL. We’ve come this far guys,” one fan wrote. You can check out more fan reactions below.

Last night’s show also featured a surprise appearance from Kamala Harris. Roan made headlines earlier this year after saying she was not going to give her undivided support to a single candidate in the election, due to the “problems” on both sides.

Following fan outcry following his comments, she then further clarified her position by stating, “I’m voting for fucking Kamala.”but I am not satisfied with what has been proposed. Because it’s debatable. The actions of our government, of the Internet, of you and me are questionable.”

“The Giver” premiere comes next Roan teased his highly anticipated second album. Last month, she shared a post on Instagram, in which she hinted at the upcoming project with a Love Island reference.

In the carousel post, she shows off her debut album, and another slide on the post shows her with a microphone in hand, apparently in a recording studio. She wrote in the caption: “The album is a bit out in my opinion, but it’s time to welcome a new bombshell into the villa.” »
