Tragedy: Woman’s body found on extremely remote UK island | United Kingdom | News

A missing woman has tragically been found dead in Scotland’s Western Isles after a desperate police search.

Shanahan MacInnes, 28, was last seen in the early hours of Friday November 22 in the Tindill Road area of Balivanich, with Police Scotland saying it was “extremely unusual for Shanahan to be missing”.

On Sunday afternoon, police announced that the body of a woman had been discovered in the Aird area of Benbecula after a search involving around 60 volunteers, as well as the coastguard and firefighters.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, Ms MacInnes’ family has been informed. Her family released a statement on social media saying they were “absolutely heartbroken.”

They said: “Shanahan’s death is an extremely tragic accident. It is no one’s fault.”

Shanahan’s workplace, The Shore Room hair and beauty salon, announced its closure until further notice. They said: “We appreciate all the love and support we have received at this time.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

At the time of her disappearance, her loved ones confirmed that she had left behind her car, purse, phone, car and keys.

Meanwhile, the search continues in the nearby town of Stornoway for missing teenager Aleksandr Benga.

The 16-year-old was last seen near the waterwheel in the grounds of Lews Castle on Monday, November 18.
