Jordie Barrett: All Black could make Leinster lose against Bristol

Leinster boss Leo Cullen says the province wants to “ensure” All Black Jordie Barrett succeeds during his short stay in Dublin.

The utility back arrived at the RDS this week and served as water carrier for his new teammates as they beat Ulster 27-20 in Belfast on Friday night to make it seven wins from seven matches in the United Rugby Championship this season.

The 27-year-old, who has signed a contract until the end of the season, was lightly affected on international duty this month but Cullen said he looked ‘OK’ as Leinster turned his attention towards his opening match of the Champions Cup. in Bristol on December 8.

“Jordie only arrived on Wednesday so he had a knock and he came off in the France game so he looks OK,” Cullen said.

“We will first try to get him working during training and make a few calls to find out when he will start.

“It’s unusual for a player to arrive mid-season, so we want to make sure we prepare him as best as possible to help him succeed. We will continue this process over the next period.”

Having been the bulk supplier to Andy Farrell’s Ireland side in four November Tests, Cullen is looking forward to reuniting with other key men as well.

“We are lucky because these are guys who play at the highest level,” he added.

“We will be watching (Saturday’s match between Ireland and Australia) with great interest to see how everyone does.

“The internationals also return next week, but we will try to keep them fresh so they can be fired in the new year.”
