SEPA issues flood warnings across Scotland amid disruption from Storm Bert

Flood warnings were issued across Scotland on Monday as Strom Bert continues to ravage the country.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has warned residents from Ayr to Troon and Orkney’s Churchill Barrier to expect flooding from the sea due to “high tides and large waves”.

Residents in Strathglass and Moy Bridge have been urged to prepare for flooding of farmland due to rising river levels. The agency is monitoring the situation and will issue an updated warning if rising river waters pose a greater risk.

SEPA said the warnings were in effect until further notice.

It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind across the West Coast, Highlands, Strathclyde and Tayside from midnight to 10am on Monday.

Forecasters predicted gusts of 50 to 60 mph, with exposed areas hit by 70 mph winds.

The Met Office says “delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely”.
