The money will be given to the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which finances the secession. LIVGolf, an 11 percent share in the Tour.

In exchange, they will get two places on the PGA Tour board of directors – including the position of president.

Superstars Tiger wood And Rory McIlroy played a key role in the peace talks.

The deal still needs to be approved by PGA players, but they are expected to come to an agreement.

The Saudis happily paid Jon Rahm almost £500m to became their most high-profile recruit a year ago.

PIF has assets of £720 billion, so shelling out £1 billion to become an accepted part of the golf establishment seems a small price to pay.

The agreement will finally end the impasse between the PGA and the LIV, which announced the breakaway tour three years ago.

They attracted Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter with multi-million pound contracts.

The first event took place near London two years ago. The players were immediately banned from participating in PGA and DP World Tour events, which hold golf events in Europe.

LIV hosted 14 events this year, but their tournaments will now be under the PGA umbrella.

The sweetener for golfers who have remained loyal to the PGA Tour is likely to be another massive injection of cash into the £1.2 billion fund created this year to reward such players.

The DP World Tour will also benefit, as its “strategic alliance” with the PGA Tour will be strengthened, with additional money diverted for prize money.
