DUSU Poll Results 2024: DU imposes affidavit to prevent noisy, disruptive celebrations

Delhi University has demanded that candidates in Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections sign an affidavit pledging to refrain from using loudspeakers, firecrackers, pamphlets and dhols after the announcement of the results. Additionally, roadshows or gatherings to celebrate victories have been strictly prohibited, according to university officials.

The affidavit states that any violation of these conditions could result in the disqualification of the successful candidate or the annulment of his victory. The move is in line with existing election rules and follows a case in the Delhi High Court regarding defacement of public property during the DUSU elections.

Candidates must submit the affidavit to the Chief Electoral Officer no later than Sunday. However, at present, only about half of the 21 candidates in the central panel have complied, sources revealed.

DUSU’s results, originally scheduled for September 28, were delayed by nearly two months due to court orders that required the university to clean up campaign-related damage before declaring winners. While the university submitted a status report, delays in cleaning pushed the results back first to November 21 and then to November 25.

With results expected to be announced on Monday, the university is taking additional measures to ensure strict compliance with election guidelines and the smooth running of the election process.
