Los Alamos police investigate vandalism, theft of political signs

LOS ALAMOS, New Mexico (KRQE) – Los Alamos Police are seeking information on vandalism and theft targeting political signs.

The department released a video Thursday showing a man sticking a swastika on a “Trump-Vance” sign. Police said the incident happened Tuesday morning on Trinity Drive. The same night, surveillance video captured a person with a child stealing the same sign.

Police said they had received five reports of signs being vandalized, defaced or stolen since mid-September, and the cases were split between the two political parties.

“We don’t want to see anything like that. We want everyone to have this freedom of expression. We want everyone to be able to express their concerns, express who they support, but we want to keep it peaceful,” Los Alamos Deputy Police Chief James Rodriguez said.

Los Alamos said they did not witness political violence. They are offering a $200 reward for information about the vandalism.
