MDOT Hosts Holiday-Themed Safety Message Contest

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – As Christmas approaches, the Mississippi Department of Transportation is hosting a contest for people to come up with fun and original holiday messages for digital signs across the state.

MDOT Executive Director Brad White says the signs remind people of the importance of safe driving.

“MDOT’s 12 Days of Christmas Sign Contest is a great way for us to engage with the public, spread some holiday cheer and provide Mississippi motorists with the safest trips possible,” White said .

You can submit a post from November 12 to December 2 via MDOT’s social media channels.

Competition rules:

  • The message must be about road safety.
  • Signs can only contain three lines and 21 characters per line, including spaces.
  • Hashtags, phone numbers and website addresses are not allowed.
  • No emojis.

MDOT will select 12 messages to display on signs along highways and interstates across the state. The winning posts will be displayed from December 14 and the last one will be published on Christmas Day.

There is no limit to the number of messages you can submit.

Funny messages on digital billboards may not exist in the future. The Federal Highway Administration plans to update regulations to eliminate humorous messages on electronic signs on highways and highways. The new regulations are due to come into force in 2026.
