The Bennington Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its K-9s.

K-9 Gracie died after what police described as a sudden medical event.

Gracie was taken to the Capital District Veterinary Hospital in Latham, but died before arrival.

K-9 Gracie worked at the department for eight years.

She has completed more than 500 deployments during which she helped track down more than 70 people and recover more than $1 million in drugs and cash.

She also participated in many school events.

The Bennington Police Department will soon hold a memorial service in Gracie’s honor.
