The common denominators that link Trump’s choices for his second term

Election Day 2024 was only a few weeks ago, and Donald Trump has already done it. announced his choices for his second ministerial term. It turns out that a new president and his transition team can act incredibly quickly when they abandon the vetting process altogether.

There have been quite a few comments on the differences between the Republican selections… a report from Politico described the new cabinet as “the hiking team” — although there are some common denominators that tie Trump’s choices together for his second term.

Trump chose many television personalities (especially from Fox News): During his first term, the president of the GOP leaned heavily about the people he saw and liked on cable news. As his second-term team takes shape, Trump is poised to recruit even more TV personalities to his cabinet.

Pete Hegseth (Fox News personality), Dr. Mehmet Oz (syndicated host), Sean Duffy (Fox Business host), Mike Huckabee (former Fox News host), Tulsi Gabbard (Fox News contributor), Tom Homan (former contributor of Fox News), Dr. Martin Makary (frequent Fox News commentator) and Dr. Janette Nesheiwat (Fox News contributor) will collectively form a “Furniture designed for the television.”

If we widen the aperture a bit, that same thing can also include Sebastian Gorka, a prominent far-right media commentator, and Linda McMahon, who has maintained a high public profile within the professional wrestling company she helped direct, often appearing on camera. (Trump, it should be noted, is a former television personality himself.)

Trump selected many Project 2025 authors and contributors: Before election day, the former president went to great lengths to distance oneself of the right model. After Election Day, Trump tapped the document’s authors and contributors to play key roles in his second term.

A Associated Press report In summary, the president-elect “provides his second administration with key players in the detailed effort he has temporarily avoided.” Most notably, Trump tapped Russell Vought for a recall as director of the Office of Management and Budget; Tom Homan, his former immigration chief, as “border czar”; and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller as deputy policy chief.

This is of course a partial list, which also includes John Ratcliffe, a Project 2025 contributor who Trump now wants to lead the CIA, and Brendan Carr, who wrote part of the Project 2025 document and will likely soon lead the CIA. FCC.

Trump singled out several people accused of sexual misconduct: Given his own sexual misconduct scandals, common sense might suggest that the president-elect exercise some caution in this area. This is clearly not the case.

As The Washington Post reported“(Matt) Gaetz, Pete Hegseth and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – Trump’s first picks to lead the Justice, Defense and Health and Human Services departments, respectively – have each been accused of sexual misconduct . Additionally, Linda McMahon, Trump’s education secretary and former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, was accused in an October trial of failing to prevent sexual abuse of teenage girls working at WWE. None have faced criminal charges and all have denied wrongdoing.

Trump chose a lot of Floridians: The Sunshine State is overrepresented in Trump’s next team, with Marco Rubio, Pam Bondi, Dave Weldon and Michael Waltz set to join the next administration. (I’m not including Gaetz on this list, although he is also a Florida Republican.)

There is still some key locations that must be completedand applicants hoping to be successful should probably keep these categories in mind.
